iPad Secure Email Setup

Secure Email Configuration

This article will show you how to properly configure your email client to your 3dcart mail server using secure port requirements on an iPad.

iPad Secure Email Setup

If you currently have an email account set up in your iPad email program, we recommend following the steps outlined in Editing an Existing Email Account Profile.

However, if you are adding a brand new email account for yourself or a new employee, please follow the steps involved with Adding a New Email Account.

Adding a New Email Account

Use these steps if you are adding a brand new e-mail account profile to your iPad Mail.

  1. From your phone's Home screen, Go to your Settings interface
  2. Then select the "Mail, Contacts & Calendars" option on the left.

You will see a list of your current mail and contact accounts.

  1. Followed by the "Add Account" option at the right

You will see preset email configuration buttons for services like Gmail, Yahoo, etc.

  1. Click on the option towards the bottom which reads "Other"
  2. Followed by "Add Mail Account"

  1. Then fill out the Name, Email Address, Password and Description fields as applicable to your account.
  2. Click "Next" when done
  3. On the next screen, select whether you will be using IMAP or POP for your mail. (For our example, we'll be using POP)

Note
Check with your IT personnel if you are not sure whether you are using POP3 or IMAP. Most people use POP3.

  1. Specify your incoming and outgoing mail servers. Typically this will be mail.your-domain.com. Check your 3dcart Welcome email for specific information.

  1. Click "Save" when done.

Additional Information
When specifying your email logon User Name, be sure to use the entire email address. (i.e. user@domain.com)

After clicking the "Save" button your iPad will try to verify the entered settings.

Note
During the test, you may receive a warning about the server's security. This is due to the entered domain not having its own SSL certificate and the warning is just advising that the security certificate for mail.[your-domain].com could not be found.  However, since you are on a shared mailserver, the SSL certificate is in fact present; it's just installed on 3dcart's mailserver name.

The warning itself may be ignored because the server still requires authentication and is therefore secure in that respect. However, if you would like to eliminate the warning altogether, you can use the appropriate mail.3dcartstores.com for your account. Please refer to your welcome email for the appropriate 3dcartstore.com mailserver to use.

In any event, if you get the message shown below, just click "Continue" to proceed.

After clicking "Continue," you will need to click "Save" once again to clopse the window. After doing this, you will be taken back to your iPad's mail and contacts setup screen. From here, you may proceed with the following steps:

  1. Select your 3dcart Email Profile
  2. Click the "Advanced" option to edit your incoming mail server

  1. Toggle the "On" button for "Use SSL"
  2. Set the Authentication method to "Password" if it's not already set.
  3. Then click Back to your Mail settings screen
  4. And click the "SMTP" listing to edit your outgoing mail server settings.

You will see a listing of your main outgoing server along with back up servers that might be available through your other email accounts.

  1. Select your main 3dcart outgoing server
  2. Toggle the "On" button for "Use SSL"
  3. Set the Authentication method to "Password"
  4. Then click Back to your Mail settings screen

  1. Once you're back to your main mail settings page, click Done to set your Mail Account settings

Your 3dcart email is now set up and ready to use in iPad.
