How do I Integrate With Stripe Payment Services?

Important This article is aimed at our merchants on our legacy paid plans (for more information see here). This feature is not accessible on our free, End to End plan.

Note
The main instructions provided here are for users who are setting up Stripe for the first time on their Shift4Shop store.

If you are using the legacy version of Stripe, (enabled before Q1 of 2020) please review the steps mentioned in the "Manually Adding the Stripe Payment Module" section below.

Stripe is a transparent online payment system that allows individuals and businesses to accept credit card payments over the Internet . This article will show how to easily integrate the Stripe Online Payment System to your Shift4Shop Powered Online Store.

Additional Information
Stripe is currently available for merchant payments in the US, UK, Canada, and Ireland with many other international areas in the works! Click here for more information on their current global solutions.

Enable the Stripe Payment Module to your Shift4Shop Store

The first step is to enable the Payment Module to your store. To do this:

  1. Log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager
  2. Using the left hand navigation menu, go to Settings >Payment
  3. Next, click on the "Select Methods" button underneath Payment Methods

At the top of the page, you will see a section labeled "Recommended Payment Solutions" with a series of payment methods listed

  1. Locate Stripe in this list and turn on the toggle switch at the right of it to the "ON" position.

The payment module will expand and you can continue with the following steps

  1. Click on the "Connect with Stripe" button as shown.

You will then be taken to a sign up form on Stripe's service requesting authorization to connect to your Shift4Shop store to your Stripe account.

At this point, you can either create an account for yourself on Stripe, or - if you already have a Stripe account - log into your account to allow the connection.

Additional Information
Creating an account with Stripe is quick and easy and is available instantly upon signing up. Stripe's service is charged on a per transaction basis with no monthly, setup, or validation fees. Click here for more information about Stripe's pricing structure.

After authorizing the connection, your Shift4Shop store will automatically be connected to your stripe account, and you can begin accepting payments instantly!

Note
If you are already logged into your Stripe account before clicking the "Connect with Stripe" button (see step 5), then you will not be directed to the sign up/login form at all. Stripe will automatically be connected to your store instantly.

Manually Adding the Stripe Payment Module

As mentioned, the steps above are for stores adding Stripe for the very first time. However, if you've installed stripe previously on the store (Prior to Q1 of 2020) you are most likely using the legacy version of stripe with the optional "Stripe JS" setting.

The following steps can be used if you'd like to install the more up to date version of Stripe while leaving the legacy version enabled on your store.

  1. Log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager
  2. Using the left hand navigation menu, go to Settings >Payment
  3. Look at the top right of the page and click on the "Add New" button
  4. Configure your Country, State, Order Amount Ranges and Customer Groups applicable to this Payment Method as needed.
  5. From the Payment Method drop-down menu, select "Stripe"
  6. Click Add New when Complete

The Stripe Method is added to your store. Now, you will need to connect to your Stripe account.

  1. Locate the Payment Method you just added and click on the "Connect with Stripe"

You will then be taken to a sign up form on Stripe's service requesting authorization to connect to your Shift4Shop store to your Stripe account.

At this point, you can either create an account for yourself on Stripe, or - if you already have a Stripe account - log into your account to allow the connection.

Configuring the Stripe Payment method

Once Stripe is connected to your store, you may proceed with configuring the rest of the Stripe module in your Shift4Shop store.

  1. Log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager
  2. Using the left hand navigation menu, go to Settings >Payment
  3. Next, click on the "Select Payment Methods" button underneath Payment Methods
