Android Phone Secure Email Setup

Secure Email Configuration

This article will show you how to properly configure your email client to your 3dcart mail server using secure port requirements on Android Powered Phones.

Please note
Android powered phones have slightly different navigation elements depending on the model of the device, service provider used, O/S version and other factors. In many cases, accessing the mail settings will be done either through the phone's settings screens or (more often) by accessing the phones built-in email program. This tutorial will illustrate accessing the email settings via the phone's default email client.

Android Phone Secure Email Setup

If you currently have your 3dcart email account set up in your Android Phone, we recommend following the steps outlined in Editing an Existing Email Account Profile.

However, if you are adding a brand new email account for yourself or a new employee, please follow the steps involved to Adding a New Email Account

Adding a New Email Account

Use these steps if you are adding a brand new e-mail account profile to your Android Phone

  1. Open up your phone's default email program

Note
If you have separate email account(s) already created on this phone, then you will see the main email account's mailbox. To access the following screens, click your phone's "menu" button and go into settings for the email program.

Otherwise, if this is the first email account you are creating on the phone, you may proceed with the following steps

  1. Click on the "+" symbol located at the top of the screen

This will begin the wizard setup process.

  1. Enter your email address and password
  2. Click "Manual Setup"
  3. Select either POP3 account or IMAP account

Note
Check with your IT personnel if you are not sure whether you are using POP3 or IMAP. Most people use POP3.

  1. Change your User name to be the full email address.
  2. Specify your incoming mail server as mail.[your-domain].com
  3. Then select Security type as "SSL (Accept all certificates)"
  4. Click "Next"

Additional Information
When specifying your email logon User Name, be sure to use the entire email address. (i.e. user@domain.com)

Also, for incoming and outgoing mail servers, you will specify mail.[your-domain].com for both servers.

Note
You may receive a warning about the server's security. This is due to the entered domain not having its own SSL certificate and the warning is just advising that the security certificate for mail.[your-domain].com could not be found.  However, since you are on a shared mailserver, the SSL certificate is in fact present; it's just installed on 3dcart's mailserver name.

The warning itself may be ignored because the server still requires authentication and is therefore secure in that respect. However, if you would like to eliminate the warning altogether, you can use the appropriate mail.3dcartstores.com for your account. Please refer to your welcome email for the appropriate 3dcartstore.com mailserver to use.

The phone's email setup should automatically detect the appropriate secure ports, but make sure these are specified:

  • Incoming POP3 Port: 995 (If using IMAP; Port 993)
  • Outgoing SMTP Port: 465
  1. Enter your SMTP server as mail.[your-domain].com
  2. Then select Security type as "SSL (Accept all certificates)"
  3. Click "Next"

  1. Specify any account options you may wish to have set
  2. Click "Next"
  3. Name your Profile and Set your signature if desired
  4. Click "Done"

Your Android powered phone is now set up and ready to receive/send your 3dcart email.

Editing and Existing Email Account

Use these steps if you are editing an existing e-mail account profile to your Android Phone

  1. Open up your phone's default email program
  2. Click on your phone's Menu button and go into the settings screen for the email program
  3. Click on the email account that you'd like to edit

This will take you to the specific email account's settings.

  1. Scroll all the way down to the bottom
  2. Click "Incoming settings"
  3. Then select Security type as "SSL (Accept all certificates)"
  4. Click "Done"

  1. Now, click on the "Outgoing Settings" option
  2. Select Security type as "SSL Accept all certificates)"
  3. Click "Done"

Your Android powered phone is now set up and ready to receive/send your 3dcart email.
