How do I set up Australian Goods and Services (GST) tax?

Australian GST is a type of VAT tax. According to the Australian Taxation Office, this tax is a "Broad-based tax of 10% on most goods, services, and other items sold or consumed in Australia."

To set up your GST taxes, you will need to:

  • Set up your Store's Tax tables for Australia
As mentioned, the Australian GST is a broad based 10% flat tax for all of Australia. Unless you have special regions you need to consider that have a different tax rate than the flat tax, you will only have one entry to set up in the store's tax manager. Otherwise, you will have to configure whichever regions individually. Click here to learn more about setting up taxes in your store using Shift4Shop's Tax tables.
  • Set up the Shift4Shop VAT tax module
Secondly, you will need to enable Shift4Shop's VAT module and set it to 10% (assuming that you have the standard GST). To learn how to enable and configure VAT, click here.
