For some of our merchants who use standard measurement units, item weights can be a bit difficult to configure. This is due to the fact that the items being sold are less than a pound (or have additional weight increments) but most U.S. shipping carriers use pounds as their base weight unit of measurement. How can you write 3oz as pounds?
When it comes to shipping rates, rounding up to the nearest half pound (.5) can greatly skew the calculated shipping rate or limit the selectable shipping methods shown during checkout. For example, USPS' First Class Mail has a weight limit of 13 ounces; anything over this will prevent the method from showing up on the order screens.

So, if your product is 3 lbs, 2 oz. You would write its weight in the store as 3.125, and a more accurate representation of its weight will be sent to the carrier for calculation.
