How do I enable Recently Viewed Items on my store?


With the Recently Viewed Items function turned on, your shoppers will be shown a history of their viewed products, as they browse through your store. This can be very useful for comparison shoppers who like to have quick access to similar products in your store to help them determine which is best for them to purchase.

More importantly, the feature works based on the visitor's browser session cookies, so even if the user were to leave your store, their browsing history will still be available to them upon subsequent visits.

Enabling the Feature

To enable this feature, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager and, using the left hand navigation menu:

  1. Go to Modules
  2. Look for the "Recently View Items" module and click on its + Icon to expand the selection.
  3. Place a checkmark in the "Enable Recently Viewed Items" box
  4. Set the number of recently viewed items that the store will display for each customer
    (This will be how many of the items in their browsing history they will see at one time.)
  5. When satisfied with your settings, click on the "Save" butotn along the top right to commit your changes.

How it will Look

Now, when your customers browse through your items, the session cookie will "remember" their recent views and place an area for them at the bottom of each listing page they subsequently view.

Your shoppers also have the ability to turn off their history, if they so choose, by clicking on the "Turn History Off" button provided.

Turning off the history will effectively clear the visitor's recently viewed items session. Therefore, turning it back ON will not recover the items they previously had there.
