Why Are My Products Exporting into Multiple Files?

When working with Product Exports, you may find that the filesize can quickly balloon and become too large for a single file to reasonably manage. To better facilitate this, and to avoid and potential performance issues with your Online Store Manager, Shift4Shop will now automatically divide Product Export files into several smaller files for you.

How does it work?

Once the Product Export reaches a certain number of lines, the system will automatically create an additional file and place the next items onto this file. This process repeats until all products are exported.

The number of lines will vary depending on the Export set chosen:

  • All Fields
The maximum number of lines per export is 50,000. So if you are exporting 75,000 products, it will be split among two files.
  • Default
The maximum number of lines per export is 30,000. If you are exporting around 75,000 products, then it will be split among three files.

The files themselves will still be located in the same location as before on the Import/Export Status page. On this page, you will see a Status column with a Quick Help icon for more information. By hovering your mouse over this icon, you will see how an Export is split up. If it is split into multiple files it will say "Set _ of _" and also provide an Export ID to help identify which export it corresponds to. This lets you easily review the origin of each file.

The progress column will also showcase the current export status of any files from your store. Here you can see in real time the number of products that have successfully exported. If you see 30000 out of 30000 then that means all of the products have finished exporting from that particular file.
