If you are using the Recurring Order (Autoship) Add-on, you have the option of creating a promotion that can entice your shoppers into signing up for the recurring order itself.
There are two separate scenarios you can set up in your store:
- Promotion Discount Applies to the initial Recurring order only
- Promotion Discount Applies to the Recurring order and each recurrence for it.
The basic process is the same for both. Here's how to start.
Set up your promotion
After setting up your recurring order products:
- Go to Marketing >Promotion Manager and set up your promotion as you normally would

- While configuring the promotion rules, look for the "Recurring Orders Only"checkbox*
- Place a mark in the checkbox
- Continue configuring your promotion as necessary

*This checkbox will only appear when you have purchased the Recurring Orders add-on. It will be located directly beneath the "Non-Stackable" checkbox.
- Save and enable your promotion as usual
By marking this checkbox, the promotion will only apply when the shopper selects to order the required items as a recurring order. In other words, let's say the promotion is for a 20% discount if they order the item with recurrences. If they merely purchase the item without selecting a recurrence, they will not get the discount. However, if they order the item and select to have it re-ordered via autoship, the discount will apply.
Typically, the promotional discount will only apply to the first initial order while all other subsequent recurring orders are charged at full price. However, if you'd like for the discount to apply to all subsequent orders, you can do this as well by following the next section.
Promotion Applies to All recurrences
After setting up your promotion as described above:
- Go to the Modules section of the Online Store Manager
- Using the search bar at the top, search for "Recurring Orders" to view and open the module
- Locate the setting labeled "Discount for subsequent orders."
- You have three options present:
Ignore Discounts: If the initial order has a discount applied to it, subsequent orders will not have the same discount applied
Keep original discount amount: Any discount used in the first order will be transferred over to all the subsequent recurring orders.
Recalculate promotions/coupons: Any discounts applied to the first order will be recalculated on the subsequent recurring orders.
- Choose the appropriate setting and then click "Save" at the top right to commit your changes.
If you select Ignore Discounts, the promotional discount will only apply to the initial order and all subsequent recurrences of the order will be charged at full price.
Note
If you need to know the promotion that was applied to the subsequent/recurrent orders, you will need to review the original order that was placed. In other words, if the new order is created from order R_AB-1044, then you will need to look at order AB-1044 to see which promotion was applied to it.
