How do I import Product Features via CSV?


You have the ability to add Product Features to your product listing pages. They are similar to the way your product's Custom Fields appear on the store, but cannot be used for search or sorting purposes like Custom Fields can. Product Features appear on the listing page as bullet points showcasing generic features and functions of the product.

Product Features can be imported to your store. This guide will give you a step-by-step process on how to import your product feature information via CSV.

To Import Product Features:

  1. Go to Products>Products List
  2. Look towards the top right of the page and click on the "Export/Import" button

The page will be split into two halves. The left half will contain your Export options, while the right half will contain your Import options.

Using the right hand (Import) section, look for the "Products Features" and click on its + Icon to expand its options.

  1. Click on the Sample File link and download the sample file to your desktop.

Open the Sample CSV file using your computer's spreadsheet program where it will contain columns for adding your information.

  1. You may now add information to the proper columns.

Below is a brief description of each field:

  • id
    This is the product ID/SKU number the product feature will display on.
  • prodfeaturetitle
    This is the title of the product feature itself. It will display in bold before the description.
  • prodfeature
    This is the bulleted feature description.

Do not remove, add, or edit any columns to this file. If you do not have a need for a column please leave it blank. This is the exact format the file needs to be to import your information properly.

  1. Once you have filled in your information, save the file to your computer in a CSV Format.
  2. Go to Products>Products List
  3. Look towards the top right of the page and click on the "Export/Import" button
  4. Once again, look for the "Products Features" on the right hand side of the page and click on its + Icon to expand the options.
  5. Use the "Browse" button to search for and select your saved CSV file on your computer
  6. Click Import Data.

Please be aware that the import function has a limit of 30 megabytes. If the CSV you are trying to import is larger than this, please split it up into separate, smaller files no larger than 30MB each.

There is no easy way to export or delete Product Features en masse once they are added to the store. Therefore, it is usually recommended that your Product Features be used for more static and unchanging information.

Custom Fields (Extra Fields 1 through 13 in the product information tab) are more suitable for situations where you want to add frequently updated product specifications.

Additional Information
The actual import/export process takes place "behind the scenes" of your store's software to prevent it from interfering with your store's active processes. By allowing the function to work in the background, you can go to other pages of the admin and still work on your store while importing or exporting large files.

During the process, you will be taken to the Import/Export Status page which will display a grid layout of your recent imports and exports. The progress column will show you the progress of the import.

At the far right of each grid item will be an action wheel that contains the following options:

  • Download: Allows you to download the CSV file after a successful import/export
  • Notify Me: For larger, more time consuming files; this option will let you input your email address so that you will receive a notice once the import/export is complete.
  • View Log: Allows you to review the log of the import/export so you can see how many items were updated, inserted or if any records failed.
  • Cancel: Allows you to cancel an impending import/export
  • Retry: If for some reason the import/export fails, you may use this option to attempt a retry of the file.
  • Delete: Use this to delete the record altogether from the status page.

This will be present in all of the store's Export/Import functions.
