How Do I Use Custom File Names?

 

While your Shift4Shop store will generate SEO friendly page names and URLs based on the product's name, there may be situations where you'd like to control the exact way a page is labeled.

Perhaps your pages enjoyed special rankings based on a specific URL file name, or maybe you just need to make the page URL easier to remember. Fortunately, Shift4Shop makes it easy to assign custom file names for your pages.


Enabling Custom File Names

  1. Log into your Online Store Manager and go to Marketing >SEO Tools.
  2. At the top of the page, you will see a section labeled "SEO Settings"
  3. Place a mark in the checkbox labeled Custom File Names.
  4. Save your changes by clicking the "Save" button at the top right.

To edit a Product Page's Custom File Name

  1. Log into your Online Store Manager and select the product
  2. Click on the product's "Meta Tags" tab.
  3. Here's where you'll be able to specify and edit the product's Custom Name.
  4. Be sure to save your changes.

To edit a Category Page's Custom File Name

  1. Log into your Online Store Manager and open up the category that you'd like to edit.
  2. In the "SEO Title & Meta Tags" section, specify your desired custom file name.
  3. Be sure to save your changes.

Tip
Title is used to label the browser window/tab when viewing the page


To edit a Site Content Page's Custom Name

  1. From your Online Store Manager, go to Content >Site Content
  2. Select your site content page and click on its "Content" button
  3. Above the Meta Tags section, you'll be able to specify your Custom File Name.

Updating Custom File Names

After specifying and/or editing your custom file names, you will need to update the store custom file name listing database. To do this,

  1. Go back to Marketing >SEO Tools and look for the "SEO Settings" section at the top of the page.
  2. In the "SEO Settings" section, click the button labeled "Update File Names."

This will refresh the database to begin using your customized filenames.

Be sure to have the "enable" checkbox still marked from the first steps in this article.
