Internal comments on orders are used to record specific details of the order that may be needed for future use. These can be details such as authorization numbers from a specific fulfillment services like Fulfillment by Amazon, or perhaps internal notes for your store's staff to be aware of.
To view any internal comments that your orders may have, log into your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager and, using the left hand navigation menu:
- Go to Orders >Manage Orders
- Find the order that you'd like to review and click on its Invoice Number.
You can also look to the far right of the order and click its respective "Action >Edit" button.
- While viewing the order information, look down towards the bottom of the order and click on the "Order Comments" tab.
The order will contain sections for both Customer Comments and Internal comments.
- Customer Comments
Typically, these comments are written to the order (by the shopper) during the checkout process.
Within the Shift4Shop Online Store Manager you will have to edit or write your own comments on the order.
When written to the customer comments field, the comments will be viewable to your shopper
- Internal Comments
Typically, Internal comments are written automatically by the store to record special details of the order. For example, credit card error codes (from the payment gateway), or posted information from a fulfillment center. However, you (as merchant) can also write your own internal comments on the order. Internal comments cannot be edited after they've been entered, and they cannot be seen by the shopper at all. Only you or your staff (logged into the Online Store Manager) can review them.
Please be aware that credit card error codes and payment gateway comments are coming directly from the gateway and not the Shift4Shop store itself. In some cases it may help to review the error code with your credit card processor to determine what may have caused a problem or issue with the order.
