When attempting to connect using ShipWorks, you may run into a 401 Unauthorized Error. This article will go over how to successfully resolve this issue.
A 401 Unauthorized error typically occurs when the API token used by ShipWorks is either outdated or invalid. This can occur if you tried to disconnect and reconnect ShipWorks from your Shift4Shop Online Store Manager. In situations like this, a new API token is generated from Shift4Shop, but ShipWorks may still be using the previous token which returns the authorization error.
To correct this, the token must be updated within ShipWorks. This can be done within the Shop Development Portal within their system. For assistance, you can reach out to Shipworks directly and they can assist with updating. Once this has been completed, you can then test the connection from Shipworks to confirm.
NOTE: Shift4Shop does not distribute tokens to third parties such as ShipWorks. We provide API endpoints and generate tokens whenever an app is connected.
ShipWorks is responsible for retrieving and updating API Tokens. This can be either done manually or automatically via API.
Merchants have the ability to install or manage ShipSorks as an app within their Shift4Shop Online Store Manager.
